South Bay Chronicle’s value to readers depends on trust. These are the standards we hold ourselves to.
Accuracy and sourcing
- We verify facts before we publish them and attribute information to its source.
- When we rely on other news organizations, public records, or official statements, we say so and link to them.
- We do not fabricate quotes, people, events, or figures, and we do not alter quotes beyond correcting obvious slips when the meaning is unchanged.
- We use anonymous sources sparingly, only when the information is important and cannot be obtained on the record, and we explain to readers why the source was granted anonymity.
Fairness
- We seek comment from the people and organizations we write about, especially when we report criticism or allegations against them, and we tell readers when they did not respond.
- News reporting and opinion are kept separate and clearly labeled.
Independence and conflicts of interest
- Advertisers, sponsors, and donors do not influence our coverage.
- We disclose relationships that a reasonable reader would want to know about, including financial interests of our owners or staff in companies or campaigns we cover.
- We do not accept gifts or payment from people or organizations we cover.

Use of technology
We may use software tools, including AI tools, to help research, organize, and draft our work. Every story is reviewed by an editor before publication, and a person is responsible for every fact we publish.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it promptly and transparently. Substantive errors are corrected in the story with a dated note at the bottom explaining what was changed. We do not quietly delete or rewrite published stories to hide mistakes. Minor fixes, like typos, may be made without a note.
To request a correction, use our Contact & Send a Tip page and include a link to the story and what you believe is wrong.
